Business Capstone Project Organizational Performance

Question: Discuss about the Business Capstone Project for Organizational Performance. Answer: Introduction (Research topic): Over the last decade, Staff turnover has been the challenging factors for the organization. Most of the organizations have been difficulties in executing business in an effective manner due to high employee turnover rate. Aarons et al. (2012) have stated that due to high competitiveness in the global market, every organization has been pressurizing their employees to enhance the high quality production within a short span of time. Consequently, employees leave their employment due to a huge workload. By analyzing a business report, it can be assessed that an average cost of single turnover in the US is approximate $3,500 to $25,000 (Long et al. 2012). With the involvement of the high turnover issue, the organization will decrease its performance. Consequently, the organization will experience lower profit margin in the business. On the other hand, effective leadership plays an integral part of the business. Without providing staff recognition and other monetary benefits, the organiza tion will not be able to reduce the high employee turnover rate (Garner et al. 2012). In this particular assignment, a brief methodology along with the different theoretical perspective will be provided in an effective manner. The research questions will be developed for investigating the research topic in a systematic way. In the research methodology section, different tools and techniques have been employed for accumulating data. For executing the research process within the timeline, a Gantt chart will be formed. Literature Review: Karantzas et al. (2012) have discussed that stuff turnover causes serious issues on the organizational performance, and it creates huge difficulties for the business expansion in the large demographic areas. On the other hand, Mowday, Porter and Steers (2013) have discussed that the staff turnover may be responsible for delaying to meet customers demand. Staff turnover personnel moves such as layoffs, firing, and promotions. However, in some cases, the staff turnover is limited due to unions involvement in the business. Park and Shaw (2013) have discussed the fact that every manager, supervisors, and business owners are required to understand the complexities of the staff turnover before making any managerial decision. It has been seen that an erroneous firing or promotion can cause decreased production level in the business. Consequently, it damages the effectiveness of the organizational performance. On the contrary, Jensen, Patel and Messersmith (2013) have argued that layoffs and firing are employed in the organization to diminish the wages and benefits payments. Staff turnover can be categorized into two sections including internal and external turnover. Internal staff turnover indicates the strategy of promoting current employees and bringing an entry-level employee for that particular post. On the other hand, the external staff turnover indicates that employees leave the organization for seeking new jobs. Aside this, staff turnover is executed in the organization based on either positive influence or negative influence. Aarons et al. (2012) have discussed that positive turnover suggests the new job opportunity due to the business expansion in the competitive market. On the contrary, the negative turnover indicates the contraction of the organizations finances due to the recession. Hence, it can be assessed that the positive turnover is beneficial for employees and the business itself, whereas the negative turnover indicates the critical situation for the existing employees of the business. There are several factors for employee turnover su ch as Employee expectations, Job person match, and Job person match, Individual employee, Staff recognition, and Job ownership, and Lack of supervision. Long et al. (2012) have agreed with the fact that the management often avoids considering employees feedback. Consequently, employees expectations are not met in the organization. On the other hand, the personality and skills of the employees need to match with the job profile so that they can deliver high quality production in the business. Garner et al. (2012) have discussed that huge demand for labor may cause the staff turnover in the business. Consequently, the management needs to provide adequate monetary benefits to the employees to stick with the organization. On the contrary, Karantzas et al. (2012) have highlighted the fact that the lack of employee recognition in the organization is responsible for increasing the turnover rate in the business. Sometimes, the small and medium organizations are unable to provide high-class training and development session to the employees. Consequently, lack of professional skills does not allow them to deliver enhanced quality work in the business. In the recent years, most of the organizations have been implementing new and innovative strategies in the business to reduce the employee turnover issue. The organization provides provision for free health care to the employees. Mowday, Porter and Steers (2013) have discussed that the work-life balance is one of the major factors that create challenges for an employee to deliver quality performance at the workplace. Hence, it can be assessed that the management needs to provide the flexible work life to the employees for reducing the staff turnover issue from the business. According to Park and Shaw (2013), any business can improve its capability to enhance the production by implementing the below provided five-step in managing staff turnover: P Provide positive work environment R Reward, recognition and reinforce the right approach I Involvement and engage D Development of skills and potentiality E Evaluate and measure It can be assessed that the staff turnover not only impedes the organizational performance but also create difficulties for achieving the goals and objective of the business. The particular chapter highlights the impact of employee turnover based on different perspectives of the authors. The probable solutions of staff turnover issues have been discussed through various theoretical approaches. Research Questions: The research questions are developed based on the research objectives. The research question facilitates in executing the research in an appropriate manner. On the other hand, the research questions help to identify the rationale of the topic. The research questions are provided below: What are the feasible factors of staff turnover in the organizations? How does the employee turnover affect the organizational performance? How does an organization reduce the staff turnover issues from the business within a short timeframe? How can the employees improve their individual performance within the business? Research methodologies and techniques: In the research methodology section, different techniques and tools have been utilized to investigate the research topic in an effective manner. in this particular research, both the primary and secondary data will be utilized. The primary data will consist of several statistical data, whereas the secondary data will facilitate in enhancing the knowledge and information on the topic generally, the secondary data will be utilized to increase the information of employee turnover in the literature review section (Panneerselvam 2014). The research design consists of three individual parts including explanatory, exploratory and descriptive design. With the involvement of the exploratory research design, different figures on the research topic can be evaluated (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault 2015). Moreover, the exploratory research design identifies the nature of the research topic. On the other hand, the explanatory research design facilitates in explaining the existing data in an effective manner. The Descriptive research design is the most authenticate research design in the methodology, as it contributes an in-depth analysis of the topic (Neuman and Robson 2012). In this particular assignment, descriptive research design has been selected for evaluating the impacts of employee turnover on the organizational performance. With the involvement of the descriptive research design, the rationale and significance of the employee turnover can be evaluated in an effective manner. Figure 1: Research design (Source: Robson and McCartan 2016) The research approach can be divided into two parts including inductive and deductive approach. In this particular assignment, the deductive approach has been selected for investigating the research topic in an effective manner (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault 2015). In deductive approach, a particular path needs to be followed that consists of four individual processes including theory, hypothesis, observation, and confirmation or the rejection (Pickard 2012). The deductive approach will facilitate in executing in identifying the impacts of the employee turnover on the organizational performance. Figure 2: Research approach (Source: Panneerselvam 2014) Gantt chart: The calculation is referred to the MS Excel Figure 3: Gantt chart (Source: Created by author) Research process: The research can be executed by following a particular process. At the initial stage of the process, the research area is identified for investigating. in the 2nd stage of the research process, aims, and objectives of the research are developed in an appropriate manner so that the research can highlight the rationale of the topic. Aside these, the research questions on the topic are formulated based on the research objectives. In the third stage of the research, a brief literature review on the employee turnover will be discussed. The literature review will consist of in-depth analysis on the research topic based on the different theoretical perspectives. The data gathering process will be executed in the 4th step of the research process. With the involvement of the data accumulation process, a huge amount of reliable data can be gathered. The particular research process will be concluded with the analysis of the collected data on the research topic. In the data analysis section, dif ferent statistical tools will be utilized for obtaining proper outcome of the research. Figure 4: Research process (Source: Miller et al. 2012) Data collection and data analysis: The data collection technique includes two processes such as primary and secondary data. A huge amount of reliable and valid data can be accumulated through primary method. On the other hand, the secondary data are collected from the books, journals, websites and other online sources. However, the secondary data reduces the data validation because most of the time the available data on the online platform are not updated from a long time (Robson and McCartan 2016). In this context, both primary and secondary data collection techniques will be utilized. The primary data facilitates in collecting the updated information on the staff turnover issues in the organization. Moreover, the primary data will indicate the current market statistics. On the other hand, the secondary data will be accumulated only for enhancing the information in the literature review section (Taylor, Bogdan and DeVault 2015). Employee turnover is a critical issue that creates challenges for the organization over t he past decade. Hence, the different theoretical approaches can be utilized for the secondary data. Figure 5: Data collection technique (Source: Pickard 2012) Data analysis includes two prime processes such as qualitative and quantitative techniques. In this particular assignment, both qualitative and quantitative process will be followed for gathering huge information on the research topic (Miller et al. 2012). In the quantitative technique, some of the potential employees of an organization will be selected for participating in the survey method. On the other hand, the available key professionals will be approached to take participate in the interview session. Quantitative analysis will highlight the issues of the employees in the organization, whereas the qualitative analysis will execute the in-depth analysis of the consequence of employee turnover on the organizational performance (Neuman and Robson 2012). By discussing the sampling technique, it can be assessed that the non-probability sampling technique would be the best possible solution for selecting the participants or respondents. In this context, the probability sampling technique will be avoided due to obtaining unbiased responses from the respondents and interviewees (Miller et al. 2012). For the purpose of data accumulation, the 100 employees of an organization will be selected along with 5 key professionals. In the particular research process, the small sample size will be taken for reducing the cost of the research project. The survey process will be conducted on the online platforms including Facebook, Skype, etc. On the other hand, the interview process will be conducted face to face. The interviewee will obtain 25-30 minutes for the discussion on the topic. In the survey questionnaires, the selected employees will be asked to highlight their issues at the workplace. The key professionals will be asked for highlighting th e impact of the high turnover rate on the business (Panneerselvam 2014). Figure 6: Data analysis (Source: Miller et al. 2012) Research outcomes: The research outcomes facilitate in evaluating the impacts of staff turnover on the business performance. Research outcome suggests a wide range of information and data on the employee turnover. In this assignment, the research outcomes deliver an in-depth discussion on the business risks due to the high employee turnover rate. On the other hand, the accumulated data will highlight the current business issues due to the employee or staff turnover. Martin Luther Was A German Theologian And Religious Reformer, Who Star

Martin Luther was a German theologian and religious reformer, who started the Protestant Reformation, and whose vast influence during his time period made him one of the crucial figures in modern European history. Luther was born in Eisleben on November 10, 1483 and was descended from the peasantry, a fact that he often stressed. Hans Luther, his father, was a copper miner. Luther received a sound primary and secondary education at Mansfeld, Magdeburg, and Eisenach. In 1501, at the age of 17, he enrolled at the University of Erfurt, receiving a bachelor's degree in 1502 and a master's degree in 1505 . He then intended to study law, as his father had wished. In the summer of 1505, he abandoned his studies and his law plans, sold his books, and entered the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt. The decision surprised his friends and appalled his father. Later in his life, Luther explained his suprising decision by recollecting several brushes with death that had occurred at the time, making him aware of the fleeting character of life. In the monastery he observed the rules imposed on a novice but did not find the peace in God he had expected. Nevertheless, Luther made his profession as a monk in the fall of 1506, and his superiors selected him for the priesthood. Ordained in 1507, he approached his first celebration of the mass with awe. After his ordination, Luther was asked to study theology in order to become a professor at one of the many new German universities staffed by monks. In 1508 he was assigned by Johann von Staupitz, vicar-general of the Augustinians and a friend and counselor, to the new University of Wittenberg (founded in 1502) to give introductory lectures in moral philosophy. He received his bachelor's degree in theology in 1509 and returned to Erfurt, where he taught and studied. In November 1510, on behalf of seven Augustinian monasteries, he made a visit to Rome, where he performed the religious duties customary for a pious visitor and was shocked by the worldliness of the Roman clergy. Soon after resuming his duties in Erfurt, he was reassigned to Wittenberg and asked to study for the degree of doctor of theology. In 1512, after receiving his doctorate, he took over the chair of biblical theology which he held till his death. Although still uncertain of God's love and his own salvation, Luther was active as a preacher, teacher, and administrator. Sometime during his study of the New Testament in preparation for his lectures, he came to believe that Christians are saved not through their own efforts but by the gift of God's grace, which they accept in faith. Both the exact date and the location of this experience have been a matter of controversy among scholars, but the event was crucial in Luther's life, because it turned him decisively against some of the major tenets of the Catholic church. Luther became a public and controversial figure when he published his Ninety-Five Theses on October 31, 1517. His main purpose of wri ting the theses was to show his opposition for the corruption and wealth of the papacy and to state his belief that salvation would be granted on the basis of faith alone rather then by works. Although it is generally believed that Luther nailed these theses to the door of All Saints Church in Wittenberg, some scholars have questioned this story, which does not occur in any of his own writings. Regardless of the manner in which his propositions were made public, they caused great excitement and were immediately translated into German and widely distributed . Luther's spirited defense and further development of his position through public university debates in Wittenberg and other cities resulted in an investigation by the Roman Curia that led to the condemnation of his teachings and his excommunication. Summoned to appear before Charles V at the Diet of Worms in April 1521, he was asked before the assembled secular and ecclesiastical rulers to recant. He refused firmly, asserting th at he would have to be convinced by Scripture and clear reason in order to do so and that going against conscience is not safe for anyone. Condemned by the emperor,

Aimee Semple McPherson - Pentecostal Evangelist

Aimee Semple McPherson - Pentecostal Evangelist Known for: successful founding, leadership of a large Pentecostal denomination; kidnapping scandalOccupation: evangelist, religious denomination founderDates: October 9, 1890 - September 27, 1944Also known as: Sister Aimee, Aimee Semple McPherson Hutton About Aimee Semple McPherson Aimee Semple McPherson was the first famous Pentecostal evangelist, seeking publicity to broaden the audience for her religious message, using modern technology (including the automobile and radio) truly a pioneer in religious history. The Foursquare Gospel Church which she founded is now a movement with more than two million members around the world. But most people know her name mainly for an infamous kidnapping scandal. Aimee Semple McPherson disappeared in May 1926. At first Aimee Semple McPherson was presumed drowned. When she reappeared she claimed to have been kidnapped. Many questioned the kidnapping story; gossip had her shacked up in a romantic love nest, though a court case was dropped for lack of evidence. Early Life Aimee Semple McPherson was born in Canada, near Ingersoll, Ontario. Her birth name was Beth Kennedy, and she soon called herself Aimee Elizabeth Kennedy. Her mother was active in the Salvation Army and was the foster daughter of a Salvation Army captain. At age 17 Aimee married Robert James Semple. Together they traveled in 1910 to Hong Kong on their way to China to be missionaries, but Semple died of typhoid fever. A month later, Aimee gave birth to a daughter, Roberta Star Semple, and then moved to New York City, where Aimees mother was working with the Salvation Army. Gospel Career Aimee Semple McPherson and her mother traveled together, working on revival meetings. In 1912 Aimee married Harold Steward McPherson, a salesman. Their son, Rolf Kennedy McPherson, was born a year later. Aimee Semple McPherson began working again in 1916, traveling by automobile a Full Gospel Car with slogans painted on its side. In 1917 she started a paper, The Bridal Call. The next year, Aimee McPherson, her mother and the two children traveled across the country and settled in Los Angeles, and from that center, continued cross-country revival tours, even traveling to Canada and Australia. Harold McPherson came to oppose Aimees traveling and ministry, and they were divorced in 1921, Harold charging her with desertion. By 1923, Aimee Semple McPhersons organizing was successful enough that she able to build the Angelus Temple in Los Angeles, seating more than 5,000. In 1923 she also opened a Bible school, later to become the Lighthouse of International Foursquare Evangelism. In 1924 she started radio broadcasts from the Temple. Aimee Semple McPherson and her mother personally owned these ventures. Aimees flair for dramatic costumes and techniques and her faith healing activities drew many followers to her message of salvation. Initially she also included a Pentecostal revival standard, speaking in tongues, but de-emphasized that over time. She was also known as something of a difficult person to work with, to some of those who worked closely with her in the Temples ministry. Went for a Swim In May 1926, Aimee Semple McPherson went for a swim in the ocean, accompanied by her secretary who stayed on the shore and Aimee disappeared. Her followers and her mother mourned her death while newspapers featured the continuing search and rumors of sightings until June 23, when Aimee reappeared in Mexico with a story of kidnapping and captivity a few days after her mother received a ransom note that threatened that Aimee would be sold into white slavery if the half million dollar ransom was not paid. Kenneth G. Ormiston, who was a radio operator for the Temple, disappeared at the same time, leading to suspicion that she had not been kidnapped but had instead spent the month in a romantic hideaway. There had been gossip about her relationship with him before the disappearance, and his wife had moved back to Australia, claiming her husband was involved with McPherson. There were reports that a woman who looked like Aimee Semple McPherson had been seen in a resort town with Ormiston during McPhersons disappearance. Suspicion led to a grand jury investigation and charges of perjury and manufacturing evidence against McPherson and Ormiston, but the charges were dropped the next year without explanation. After the Kidnapping Scandal Her ministry continued. If anything, her celebrity was greater. Within the church, there were some repercussions to the suspicions and scandal: Aimees mother even split from her. Aimee Semple McPherson married again in 1931. David Hutton, ten years her junior and a member of Angelus Temple, filed for divorce in 1933 and it was granted in 1934. Legal disputes and financial difficulty marked the next years of the churchs history. McPherson continued to lead the churchs many activities, including her radio talks and her preaching, and the financial difficulties were largely overcome by the 1940s. In 1944, Aimee Semple McPherson died of an overdose of sedatives. The overdose was pronounced accidental, complicated by kidney problems, though many suspected suicide. Legacy The movement that Aimee Semple McPherson founded continues today at the end of the 20th century, it claimed about two million members in more than 30 countries, including the 5,300 seat Angelus Temple in California. Her son Rolf succeeded her to leadership. To test animal intelligence for him is the same as to test a blind person giving him a written IQ test. Budiansky asserts that every animal has his own sort of intelligence. Monkeys performed far superior to rats in test based in visual discriminations, though rats are better in the same test based in smell discrimination. "The branching tree of evolution has not just one culmination, but millions of culminations -- represented in every living species on earth today," he writes. "Each is a brilliant success at what it does." And it is the nature of such "brilliance" that remains to ponder" (Gabriel, 2000). As for language, animals speak, but their way of communication differs from ours. Researcher have counted that our closest relatives, apes, with whom humans share an astonishing 98.4% DNA, use nearly 68 different sounds in their communication. "Orangutans may have the most impressive individual call of any ape, the long call. It begins with a low soft grumble, modulating in pitch like a string bass player using vibrato" ("The Animal Communication Project", n.d.). This one means that this territory has an owner and possibly calls females. Some orangutans accompany this call by crashing snags. In response this call triggers long calls from neighboring males. The pant-hoot - is one of the best-studied chimpanzee vocalizations. "It begins with breathy, low-pitched hoots that segue into a series of quicker, higher-pitched in-and-out pants, as if the chimp were trying to play harmonica without an instrument. Finally the pant-hoot builds to a loud... The researcher states that human superiority is reconsidered today. Its peak is the animal rights movement, which final aim is to equate humans and animals beyond the law. Peter Singer, author of Animal Liberation, argues that we need to extend rights to the great apes, in the first instance, followed by all other animal species. People have always considered the most distinctive feature between them and animals the sophisticated language. As Joel Wallman, author of Aping Language, explains, "...language, at least in the European intellectual tradition, is the quintessential human attribute, at once evidence and source of most that is transcendent in us, distinguishing ours from the merely mechanical nature of the beast". In the 18th century a French philosophy, Julien Offray de la Mettrie, wrote a book titled L’Homme Machine. He thought that all the creatures on the Earth are the mere machines and suggested that the reason animals â€Å"cannot speak is not because of any inf eriority in rationality to human beings but because of ‘some defect in the organs of speech.’ He believed a young ape could be taught the use of language†. The researcher then concluds that people have overestimated our superiority and this has led to the colossal losses in nature. We use animals in our needs: kill them for fun, abuse in experiments; take from them their living territory, treat cruelly. Nobody has given us such a right. And we must do our best to save and preserve what can be still saved and preserved and make animals our friends.

Should Companies Subscribe to Codes of Corporate Social Responsibility Assignment

Should Companies Subscribe to Codes of Corporate Social Responsibility - Assignment Example Elementary interpretation of the phrase ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ calls for an investigation into the ‘supposed’ relationship between business and society. The hypothesis that there is a tangible link between business and society is the basis for the whole issue of Corporate Social Responsibility. One comes to the conclusion that the hypothesis is not true, when business, as all business, is considered. For instance, take the example of a logistics service, of any type for that matter. For example, in the case of a grocery supplier that charges farmers for transporting vegetables to the local market, there is little relation if any between business and the society at large. At least no responsibility in this case seems to arise directly from a business of this kind. According to Carroll & Buchholtz (2001), â€Å"when we speak of business and society relationships, we usually refer to particular segments or subgroups of society or to business and som e system in our society†. Why this consideration is important is because it rules out the possibility of applying any holistic theories of corporate morality and conduct to business – meaning all business. Conventional Social Responsibility Anyhow, there are businesses that can be considered to be linked to society. However a non-living body cannot be expected to ‘act responsibly’. Social responsibility is a doubtlessly well-understood term in educated communities. The description and limitations of the phrase are cemented concepts. One definition of social responsibility states that being socially responsible means â€Å"acting with concern and sensitivity, aware of the impact of your actions on others, particularly the disadvantaged† (Entrepreneur Magazine). Understandably a human can use his... Regardless of the current conditions of Corporate Social structures around the world, Corporate Social Responsibility is an issue that ought to be advocated. By most contemporary definitions, CSR is the â€Å"duty of every corporate body to protect the interest of the society at large†. It is not only a responsibility of corporations to keep a check on the potential environmental damage they might be doing but after the recent boom in communication systems it is becoming an ever larger necessity for organizations as people learn to care more about the world and its inhabitants. A simple rule to follow for publicly owned companies is to obey the principles of what Geoffrey P. Lantos calls ‘Ethical’ and ‘Strategic’ Corporate Social Responsibility and leave out those of ‘Altruistic’ CSR. This classification of CSR by Lantos is derived from the theories of ethics of duty (non-consequential). It is easy to see that the only condition in which CSR adherence is to be avoided is when it curtails the rights of the shareholders. As the human race moves towards greater organizational transparency in general and ever greater public access to information, indicators of greater influence of morality on the profitability of corporations are getting ever profounder. â€Æ'

Representations of Either Male or Female Characters Essay Example for Free

Representations of Either Male or Female Characters Essay In the films I studied, (A clockwork Orange, From Russia with love, Carry on camping and a Hard days night) women are represented in similar ways but in very different circumstances. Firstly in A Clockwork Orange, women are seen as an objectified sexual obsession to the male gang. In almost every seen of the film women are presented in one way shape or form for example in the bar with the erotic, female shaped tables or the posters of women on the walls in Alex’s room. On the topic Kubrick has previously said â€Å"In the film, women are the ultimate harbingers of sexual desire, and it is only them who can suppress it. This power leaves the male ‘Droogs’ inwardly feeling threatened, which in part leads to cowardly rape.† I feel this quote explains the representation of females in the film perfectly as Alex, a man who feels he has great power over the rest of society, is surrounded by women and is always met with his sexual desire for them; Although the idea of sex in A Clockwork Orange is not an expression of love or intimacy, but rather an exhibition of power and violence. In this case Alex feels that to remain ‘powerful’ over everyone else he needs to use women as a object to satisfy his growing needs for power. In From Russia with Love, women are again seen as a object and are infamously named ‘the Bond Girls’ showing how in the larger scale there roles are minor compared to the ‘amazing’ Mr Bond. The opening title to the film shows barely clothed belly dancers dancing and parading there bodies to the Bond theme tune, showing how there bodies are more important then the woman herself. Throughout the film it is apparent that women are only good for a number of tasks: giving massages to the male characters, belly dancing and for casual sex and even then its when the man wants and not the woman. Despite this, in the film the female lead Tatiana played by Daniela Bianchi, shows womans slowly growing power and independence, for example Tatiana smoking representing the freedom that she perhaps now felt, although she is sitting down and Bond is standing over her, clearly in a position of more power. It is felt that the woman in the film are constantly being overlooked by men for example Tatiana killing the villain, which in normal circumstances would make her the ‘hero’ in the film, but this is undermined by the way Bond immediately takes the gun off her, as though it does not belong with her or she is not safe with it. In the film A Hard Days Night whenever the The Beatles perform, the members of the band are all distinguished as four individual, male characters. This massively contrasts with the role of women in the film, as there have been no main female characters; women are either portrayed as screaming, uncontrollable girls or again as sex objects. The idea behind this shows that women have no individuality in the film and are really only there to worship, flirt or to sexually satisfy the boys in the band. Finally the idea of women being perceived as objects is again mirrored in the final film Carry On camping, where the women are seen as objects for the men to flirt with and pursue in a sexual manner. Although Carry on camping differs from the previous films as there are several female characters which are seen to have hierarchy over certain male characters. For example the character Harriet Potter had the power in the relationship and often bossed her husband around in a comical manner. Overall in all the films it is obvious that women are often being represented as objects to satisfy mens needs and dont serve a real purpose in any of the films and if they do it is only in a comical manner to retrieve laughter from the audience.
